The Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany,
Indiana is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibit
"Hook, Line & Singer: Contemporary Art Quilts
and Hooked Rugs." The exhibit will be on display
at the Center from January 11 to March 8, 2003. It will
feature the work of the Buffalo Trace Rug Hookers of
Floyd County, Indiana and Fiber Four, a group of Louisville
fiber and quilt artists.
 |
The Carnegie Center will offer a number of classes,
lectures, and demonstrations in conjunction with
the exhibit. The members of Fiber Four will present
"Quilt University," a series of Saturday
workshops ranging in topic from foundation and
machine piecing to low-liquid immersion dyeing
and achieving texture with the sewing machine.
|
The workshops will begin with a free gallery
talk and introduction to the series on Saturday January
18. Most Quilt University classes have an additional
materials fee, payable to the instructor the day of
class, as well as a list of items that participants
need to bring with them.
The Buffalo Trace Rug Hookers will demonstrate
rug hooking in the Carnegie Center galleries on Saturdays
throughout the run of the exhibit (excluding March 8).
On select Saturdays, the group will also present a free
one-hour lecture on rug hooking including a short history,
various techniques, materials and tools, and a chance
to try your hand at hooking. The Carnegie Center will
also be offering two beginning rug-hooking classes.
