"But
who is the mother of necessity"
|
The
Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana
is pleased to announce the opening of "From Where
I Stand," an exhibit of paintings by Louisville
artist Rhonda Belden.
Belden
works most often in oil on canvas but her body of work
also includes intaglio prints. She is known for her
large palette-knife abstracts that couple a fluid, dynamic
sense of movement with sumptuous, just-painted color.
The
exhibit will be on display March 25-April 16, 2005 and
is underwritten by the Carnegie Center for Art and History,
Inc.

Rhonda
Belden is a member of Louisville co-op gallery PYRO and
has exhibited there as well as the Artswatch Gallery and
Actors Theatre. Her work has also been on exhibit
multiple times at Indiana University Southeast in New
Albany, where she completed her Bachelors degree.
Beldens
work most recently appeared at the Carnegie Center as
part of the exhibit, "Unmasking Creativity,"
the 2004 Mary Anderson Center Biennial Alumni and Friends
Art Show.
In
the artists words, "My imagery typically
blends references to landscape, wombs, and organic figures
to suggest a concept or activity. To convey strength
towards these, I frequently use vibrant color, richly
layered surfaces, and bold compositions."
There will be an opening reception for this exhibit
on Friday, March 25 from 6-8 pm. Visitors can enjoy
refreshments and a chance to meet this accomplished
artist as they explore the exhibit. This event is free
and the public is invited to attend.
