The Carnegie Center for Art and History is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit, “Pathways and Stepping Stones: The Art Quilts of Juanita Yeager.” The mixed media art works of fiber artist Juanita Yeager play creatively on the discernible connection between the quilt as traditional craft and the more contemporary view of the quilt as art. The exhibit will be on display May 23-July 19, 2008. There will be an opening reception for “Pathways and Stepping Stones” on Friday, May 23, from 6-8 pm. Visitors can enjoy refreshments, the sounds of the Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet, and a chance to meet the artist. This is event is free and open to the public, and it is sponsored by the Carnegie Center, Inc.

By way of both pathways and stepping stones, Juanita Yeager has explored parks and gardens both grand and small, and she finds inspiration in the shapes and colors she always observes there. “This exhibit,” says Juanita, “is the result of these discoveries.” Some of the images in her work are very simplistic and graphic, while others are more complex, realistic renderings of trees and flowers. She favors large-scale work and employs large shapes and large areas of color in the interpretation of her favorite images. Juanita’s frequent use of warm colors played against darker hues captures the feel and beauty of nature. Every piece in this exhibit of 30-plus works reinforces the assertion that her art is about life, joy and beauty.
