The
Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana
is proud to announce the opening of the 33rd annual
New Albany-Floyd County Secondary Schools Art Show and
Competition. The exhibit will be on display April 22-May
21, 2005 during regular museum hours (Tuesday-Saturday
10 am-5:30 pm). There will be a reception for all the
wonderful young artists in this exhibit and those who
support and encourage them on Thursday May 12 from 6:30-8:30
pm with an awards presentation at 7:30 pm. This event
is free and the public is invited to attend.
Since
1972, the NAFC Secondary Schools Art Show and Competition
has been held each year for students in the Visual Arts
classes. Each teacher juries and submits his or her
own students work. The 360 or more pieces submitted
are judged by a panel of professional artists and art
educators. This is the only art show exclusively for
the students of Floyd County and the only opportunity
for many of these talented individuals to be in academic
competition in the Visual Arts with their peers.

| First
place awards of $25 each are awarded in 5 divisions (grades
8-12) and 10 categories. Two divisions (grades 6 and 7)
were added in 2005. With active fundraising, show organizers
hope to add awards for the 6th and 7th
grades in the future. Awards are provided by sponsors
to the Art Awards Fund, which seeks to recognize and reward
students and encourage them to excel in the visual arts.
The Art Awards Fund also seeks to help students develop
as fully rounded adult members of the community. |
