The Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit, "Ohio Valley Clay: Function and Form." The exhibit features ceramics by Chris Baskin, Sarah Frederick, Matthew Gaddie, John Guenther, Charles Hansen, Suzy Hatcher, Rand Heazlitt, Laura Ross, Reese Salmon, and Norman Silva. "Ohio Valley Clay: Function and Form" showcases modern functional dinnerware and emphasizes each artist’s individual and distinctive use of clay.

The purpose of this exhibit is to bring to the community an awareness of local potters and how functional ceramics have evolved in this area, with the intent of also increasing the interregional ceramic community’s awareness of Kentuckiana potters. "Ohio Valley Clay: Function and Form" is presented as part of the 2007 NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) Conference that will take place March 14 through 17 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville (www.nceca.net). The exhibit is open March 14 through April 27, 2007.

There will be an opening reception for this exhibit on Thursday March 15 from 6 to 9 pm. Visitors can enjoy refreshments and a chance to meet the artists included in this exhibit, and live jazz music will be featured from 6 to 8 pm. This event is free and open to the public. The opening reception is sponsored by the Carnegie Center, Inc.

Visitors to the opening reception for "Ohio Valley Clay: Function and Form" can also visit a new gallery in downtown New Albany. The Gallery on Pearl, located just 3 blocks from the Carnegie Center at 222 Pearl Street in the White House Business Center, will be open on March 15 from 6-9 pm to present the exhibit "Attention to Detail," featuring ceramics by Tom Turner, Tony Ferguson, and Tom and Elaine Coleman.
