Carnegie Center Is Currently Open | Hours

#IAmPublicArt is still on, today 2-5 PM, but due to circumstances beyond our control, there will no longer be S.K.A.T.E. competitions.

The Carnegie Center for Art and History is pleased to present its annual Public Art Project event #IamPublicArt held on Saturday, October 6 on Bank Street between Spring and Market Streets in downtown New Albany, IN. This free event begins immediately following the annual Harvest Homecoming Parade at approximately 2:00 PM and continues until 5:00 PM. #IamPublicArt is a one-day-only pop-up art event celebrating creative expression, featuring temporary art installations, live mural painting, hands-on activities for all ages, skateboarding competitions, and live music.

What’s Happening

  • Oral History Interviews

The Carnegie Center has helped create more than two dozen unique works of public art in New Albany since 2010, with public art installations ranging from steel sculptures to video projections, large floating inflatables, and soundscapes.  Beginning in 2016, the Carnegie Center has focused its annual Public Art Project event on providing art experiences, creating opportunities for people to participate in art making, and to allow people to physically engage and interact with art and creative expression.

Visitors are encouraged to come early to watch the Harvest Homecoming Parade, the official kick-off to the Harvest Homecoming Festival. The Parade starts at 12:00 PM from New Albany High School, marches down Vincennes Street then takes a right on Spring Street and ends on Bank Street, right in front of the Carnegie Center and the #IamPublicArt event. The Harvest Homecoming Festival is also a proud supporter of Hope Southern Indiana, so please bring your canned goods to be collected during the parade.

***In the event of rain, art, activities, and music will be moved indoors at the Carnegie Center across the street, and the S.K.A.T.E. competitions will be rescheduled at a later date***
